Emmanuel and Katie // Chicago Wedding Photography // Millenium Park

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Emmanuel and Katie asked me to shoot their wedding as part of what I like to call their “wedding tour.” Katie grew up in the Chicago suburbs, Emmanuel grew up in Ireland (which is also where they met) and now they both live in Vancouver, so, needless to say they have friends all over the world. They had decided to make Millenium Park in Chicago, the first stop as they toured around celebrating their life together with all of their friends and family. It was the first time I had photographed a wedding ceremony at Millenium Park and also, quite possibly the quickest ceremony I have ever photographed. I think it was 5 minutes long! I barely had time to change lenses once. Of course, when it’s 90 degrees in the Chicago humidity and there is a giant silver ball directly behind you…that’s the exactly the way to do it! We were able to take some photos in the beautiful new Modern Wing at the Art Institute of Chicago. I had such a great time meeting Emmanuel and Katie and their families. They are such a great couple and such fun, laid-back people to be around. The only down side is that they don’t live nearby. Maybe some day I will just have to make my way up to Vancouver for a visit.

Justin and Katlin // Chicago Engagement Photography // West Loop

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

It all started with a kiss…between two second graders. Well…more like Justin kissing Katlin, or so the story goes. Regardless, I LOVE this story! It must have been a spectacular  kiss because here they are, all these years later, engaged! Sure, there were a few years in there where they were just friends, but I like to think that deep down they knew all along.
I got a chance to run around Chicago getting some fun engagement shots of them. They are a such a fun and, as you can see, adorable couple. I know they will have an amazing Mayan Riviera wedding and beautiful life to follow.
Congratulations, Justin and Katlin

Rebecca and Scott

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Rebecca and Scott are, well…to use a Rebecca word, Fabulous! I have to say I felt a little like a paparazzi photographing these two. As their one year anniversary approaches, we went out to take a few photos of them around Chicago and…I mean, C’mon, could they be any more fashionable or know how to work the camera? I had so much fun just hanging out with them. They are both had me laughing the whole time at all their crazy shenanigans. Besides being stylish and humorous, Rebecca and Scott are super great and super creative. Scott is quite the musician and been in a couple differnt bands and though I have yet to hear him perform, rumor has it he has some pretty mad guitar, trombone and lead singin’ skills! Rebecca is a master at the “details”. You know, all the little things that transform a “that’s nice” to a “Whoa”! She and her friend Karin actually have a great wedding blog with a lot of their secrets. If you are getting married or know someone who is getting married or just want some fun reading, check out their blog at www.somethingborrowedblog.blogspot.com.

Sophia: Age 2

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

I usually enjoy taking pictures of little kids. They are so sweet and imaginative and don’t have all the awkward, self-conscious inhibitions that most adults do (myself included- trust me, if you’ve seen many photos of me you know I have no idea how to act on the other side of the camera). When a kid will just play and totally disregard the camera…those are the moments when I absolutely love what I do. That was definitely the case with Sophia who just turned two. I had so much fun just playing and being silly and laughing with Sophia. She is absolutely adorable and has the personality to match. I received an e-mail from her mom some time after our session which read, “Sophia and I were driving in the car today, and she said, “Remember Jaclyn?  I like Jaclyn!!” which reminded me that I wanted to send you a note.  Thank you so much for taking Sophia’s 2 year pictures!  We had such a nice time… it was a very welcome change from the studio sessions.  You should also know that you have a new fan.  Sophia hasn’t stopped asking about you!  It’s really cute.  I don’t think she realized you were taking her pictures – rather, she thinks you’re a  fun person to play with at the park!  Too funny!” Seriously? Melt my heart! Sophia should know she has a new fan now too!

Kathleen and Elliot

Friday, July 24th, 2009

I have had the privilege of getting to know this couple over the last few of years.  They have been together for 10 years and last month they celebrated their 3rd Wedding Anniversary. They are an incredibly sweet couple and so much fun to hang out with.
Kathleen is hilarious and always makes me laugh. She also has this gift of making people feel like a million bucks. Whenever I’m with her, I never doubt for a second that she is listening to me. In fact, she always seems to be hanging on to every word I say (anyone who has ever sat and listened to me ramble, knows this is a real gift) and somehow she never seems to run out of encouraging words. Currently, she is in the process of beginning the Marital and Family Therapy program at Northwestern University and I cannot think of a better fit for her.
And although I haven’t had the opportunity to spend as much time with Elliot, just being around him for even a short time makes me want to hang out with him all the more. He is a laid back, kind-hearted, genuine sort of guy who you just can’t help but like and his love for Kathleen is so apparent!
As individuals these two are great! Together…they are a force to be reckoned with! Well…like a sweet, encouraging kind of force. You don’t need to be around them very long to see how much they adore and admire each other. Whether they are sharing a “heavy on the apple, light on the tini” apple-tini (well, Kathleen anyway) or celebrating Derek Lee winning at that game that he plays, they are always enjoying each other’s company! I love that about them!
Here are a few photos from our session…
