Vintage iPhone Photos…Well Not Quite Yet.

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

I’m a sucker for a vintage camera. Give me an old Edwin Land Polaroid and my heart will sing every time! And the photographs created by a seasoned camera…I can’t help but adore! There’s just something about them that makes me smile. The faded color, the cracks, the feel and smell of the paper. I daydream about the stories behind the images and the hands and the homes through which they’ve passed. I think about what it must’ve been like to have seen one of these cameras for the first time and I can feel the excitement of holding, in my hands, what was at the time, the latest and greatest technology! Sometimes when I’m looking at these old photos, it makes me think about the future and I imagine my grandkids or great-grandkids for that matter, running around in their silver space suits, riding their hover boards, eating Dippin’ Dots (I mean, it is the ice cream of the future, right?), and taking great caution not to get hit by any flying cars, and I wonder if they’ll ever be digging around in my stuff and come across some of my old photos and have the same reaction. I picture them finding something they don’t quite recognize. The little silver apple on the small black rectangle does have a certain familiar quality to it, not unlike that of the hologram on the backs of their Apple teleporting devices. They’ll do a quick search to discover that it’s what was known as an “iPhone“. It was how the past generations reached out to one another…before communication devices were implanted in people’s brains; and, apparently, a way of taking pictures…long before digital eye glasses were created. They’ll find an antique dealer who is able to retrieve some of its data. And as they scroll across the screen, admiring the fact that it has to be held and doesn’t just show up in their minds…I’d like to think they’ll have the same appreciation, as I now do, for photos of long ago.

Here are a few of my somewhat recent iPhone photos…

Dilly Lily : Chicago Floral Events and Design // Spring Celebration

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Spring is in the air and I couldn’t be happier! The weather is warming up, the prime of wedding season is just around the corner and, of course, one of the best parts of Spring…the flowers are beginning to bloom! Last week I had the opportunity to attend a fantastic event to commemorate just that! One of my favorite Floral Designers, Dilly Lily, hosted a beautiful event to celebrate flowers, cakes and Spring! The shop was filled with magnificent floral arrangements from Dilly Lily and mouth-watering sweets from the talented people at Bittersweet, Flour, Molly’s Cupcakes, Sarah’s, Take the Cake, and Vanille! And if that wasn’t enough, there were also some great giveaways including a “Groom’s Survival Kit” from Mojuba and The book Sensational Cakes, autographed by author, Sylvia Weinstock!
I snapped a few photos to give you just a little taste of the event and Dilly Lily; but if you haven’t had the opportunity to stop by, I highly recommend doing so! With elegant flowers, lovely details, and the fabulous ladies who run this charming Lincoln Park gem, you can’t go wrong!

Jocelyn & Torsten // Chicago Wicker Park // Engagement Session

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

I love it when I find really fun, creative couples to shoot! It makes the process all the more enjoyable for me and hopefully the couple as well! This was definitely true of Jocelyn and Torsten. I had such a good time with them in Wicker Park! It was so much fun coming up with ideas I felt really expressed their personalities and even more fun to see them really get into the shoot! I also got the opportunity to sit and just hang out with Jocelyn and Torsten and, quite frankly, I just adore these two! Sure, it probably helped that Jocelyn and I totally geeked out for a bit talking about our favorite music, TV shows and Wes Anderson movies (The Royal Tennenbaums with Rushmore trailing closely behind, of course!), but either way, I think they are awesome and am so excited to shoot their wedding this Fall!
