I’m excited to share this gem of a wedding from last year! I was thrilled when Carrie & Jake asked me to photograph their wedding. For starters, they are just a fun and cute couple! Who doesn’t love spending the day with awesome people? I was particularly stoked, though, when they told me their ceremony and reception would be held at The Dawson! If you haven’t been to the Dawson yet, you need to stop what you’re doing right now and head over there. It’s a fantastically designed space and some of the best food and drink in the city. It made for a truly gorgeous and more intimate wedding location. It’s a great place to consider for your summer wedding too, as it has an incredible outdoor patio area.
As we midwesterners know all too well…Chicago can be a bit dreary and borderline unbearable in the winter months. Since this was a February wedding and we had two hours for portraits, I wanted to find a place where we could ensure Carrie & Jake were warm and comfortable. This is a really important element to consider on your wedding day. We photographers can do a lot, but it’s not easy to keep your lips from turning blue or to help you maintain that perfect expression when you’re just plain miserable. Thankfully we were able to utilize Salvage One for some of our photo time. Salvage One is an amazing place for vintage and salvaged goods and one of my favorite wedding venues. With endless photo possibilities (it changes often) and beautiful, natural light, it’s a photographers dream playground.
